Traditional nautical jousting

Medieval tournaments are the inspiration for these nautical jousts. Brightly coloured boats take the place of horses, and the two fishermen, armed with lance and spear, confront each other from their positions on the “tintaine”, the platform jutting from the prow of their boat. Visit the museum attached to the Seaquarium to find out more about this traditional spectator sport.

Magic of the Mediterranean

The atmosphere of the South

A village and port for the Camargue, the atmosphere of Grau du Roi Port Camargue is so typical of the south and the Mediterranean. The fishing port is a living tableau, with a constant buzz of activity: a trawler comes ashore, a small fishing boat is tied up, its nets full, a small boat weighed down with its traditional fishing gear sets off for the nearby lagoons. The old fishermen placidly mend their nets and then gather in the shade of the plane trees in the church square to chew the fat. The canal that slices through the town is like a bustling theatre, the theatre of life

A bountiful land

Nearby, under the cool shade of the trees, you will find a traditional market. Here is a bright array of fruit, sun-ripened vegetables, Provençal fabrics and many other riches of this bountiful land.
